Disability Supports

Fund for students with disabilities

This Fund allocates funding to further and higher education colleges for the provision of services and supports to full-time students with disabilities. Eligible students can receive assistance from the Fund from PLC level right up to doctoral level. You do not have to be in first year of a course to be eligible to apply for the Fund. Application for the first time can be made during any year of study on an approved course at further or higher education level.

Applications to the Fund are made on behalf of an eligible student by their college following an assessment of need. Contact the Disability or Access offices in your institution for further information. Find out more about the Fund for students with disabilities.

The NUI (O'Brien Bequest) Award Scheme for students with disabilities

Under this scheme awards with a total value of €11,000 are provided for new entrant undergraduate students who have serious physical disabilities and who propose to pursue Primary Degree courses in the National University of Ireland.

Individual awards will be provided to new entrant undergraduate students who are registering for the first year of a Primary Degree course of studies, in one of the Constituent Universities or Recognised Colleges of NUI, and who have serious physical disabilities.

Applicants are required to submit evidence of their disability with their completed application forms. The value of the awards is dependent on the number of applications received. In 2009, 31 individuals each received €360.
