Drugs Awareness Training
This is a 1-day course. Daily times 10am - 4pm.
Cost: 110 euro.
Who is this course for: All workers in the social sector who are likely to come into contact with clients who have alcohol or drug misuse issues.
Aim: The aim of this programme is to provide an overview of basic information relating to drugs and addiction which workers can use to inform them in their work with clients who have substance misuse issues. This programme seeks to provide a blend of theoretical and practical information which will provide a solid basis from which workers can begin to understand addiction and its associated behaviours.
Learning Outcomes: Participants completing this course will have:
-A sound understanding of various drugs including how they are used, the equipment involved, common terminology, drug effects and the patterns of drug use
-An appreciation of the policy and practice of harm reduction
Course contents:
-Categories of drugs
-Types, signs, effects and equipment (paraphernalia) of drug use
-Drugs and harm - assessing the risks
-Patterns of drug use
-Harm Reduction approach
