Funding: Irish Youth Federation Grants
8 Sep 2006 10:49 AM
To apply for funding from the Irish Youth Foundation, you must first register the Foundation. This registration ensures that you are a voluntary or community group/organisation and you work with or for disadvantaged children and young people in Ireland. Only registered groups receive an Irish Youth Foundation grant application form. Statutory bodies are ineligible.
Registered groups can apply for three different kinds of grants:
1. Large Grants - up to €50,000
Proposals are invited for large grants in October each year. This is not an open grant call, rather the Irish Youth Foundation invites a number of selected organisations to make proposals about how they would use an Irish Youth Foundation grant. In some cases, the Irish Youth Foundation identifies particular issues affecting children and young people that it would like to see addressed and invites proposals from selected organisations about how they might respond to these concerns. Again, grants are not awarded for travel outside of Ireland.
2. Medium Grants - up to €15,000
The call for medium grants is made in April each year. They are intended for community and voluntary groups working in preventative and educational ways with children and young people who are marginalised or at risk. The grants can be used to extend an existing activity, to employ additional staff, to purchase equipment, to undertake evaluation, to publish a report, to improve organisational capacity or to try something new and different. Grants will not be awarded for travel outside of Ireland.
3. Small Grants - up to €3,000
The call for small grants is made in late January, early February each year. Small grants are intended as a flexible and immediate response to the needs of children and young people from disadvantaged communities. These grants are more suited to small voluntary groups working in local areas or neighbourhoods. Proposals that can demonstrate high impact for the target group will receive particular attention. Grants will not be awarded, however, for travel outside of Ireland, for fees or for renovations.
Applications forms are mailed to organisations and groups registered with the Irish Youth Foundation. Each organisation or group must decide, given the guidelines provided with each grant call, whether to apply for a grant. Prospective applicants are advised that completing an application to the Irish Youth Foundation can consume considerable organisational and personal resources. Prospective applicants are also encouraged to contact the Irish Youth Foundation about their proposed applications.
