I'm A Politician, Get Me Outta Here!

27 Nov 2006 01:45 PM

This event is part of the Voter Education/Active Citizenship Programme that some of Warrenmount's learners are undertaking.

It is said that "All politics are local" and, with an election due early next year, this is an opportunity to see just how local representatives in Dublin 8 really are.

The 'Questions and Answers' event will give local people the opportunity to ask local politicians a question concerning a local issue. Present on the night will be candidates from Fianna Fáil, Sinn Féin, Fine Gael, Labour and the Green Party.

RTÉ Newsreader Bryan Dobson has kindly agreed to chair the night and an audience of approximately 100 local people is expected to attend.

Warrenmount Community Education Development Centre is located in the heart of Dublin and has been providing second-chance learning for the residents of Dublin 8 for 10 years. In that 10 years, over 1000 individuals have attended the Centre for a range of courses from Gardening to Computers to Childcare.

Warrenmount aims to meet the needs of the local community by:

  • Creating opportunities
  • Building confidence and
  • Developing skills

The Centre does this through a learning style that is person-centred, participative and informal. Through this, it is hoped to give people a voice, enabling them to create a better society

As well as giving people some of the skills they need to develop to pursue a career, Warrenmount also works towards building confidence and empowering people.
