AONTAS is the National Adult Learning Organisation. It is a non-government membership organisation, established in 1969. Currently, there are 603 members in AONTAS, comprising of statutory bodies, community / voluntary organisations and individuals.

Aim of Research

The aim of the research is to produce clear practice guidelines for the providers of the BTEI on the inclusion of hard-to-reach men in learning activities.

Objectives of Research

  • Analyse existing research, both from an Irish and international perspective, on working with hard-to-reach groups, such as men
  • Examine existing practice supported by the EEI, Community Education Facilitators (CEFs), community groups and other providers by documenting the elements of good practice on inclusion of hard-to-reach men in learning
  • Produce a set of practical guidelines for BTEI providers that will be informed by existing research and practice.

Outcomes

  • To produce an interim report to the working group
  • A summary of reports of the international and Irish literature pertaining to the research
  • A practical set of guidelines for BTEI providers on the inclusion of hard-to-reach men in learning activities that will inform the existing BTEI practice and be of a publishable standard, as agreed by the working group.

The timeframe for this reserach is 25 days, with the work commencing in April 2007, to be completed by June 2007.

A working group will be established to oversee and advise on the work of the research.

Assessment of Tenders

Tenders will be evaluated by reference to the following criteria:

  • The individual's / organisation's track record in carrying out reserach
  • The individual's / organisation's understanding of adult and community education
  • The individual's / organisation's proven ability to undertake research within a social inclusion context
  • Understanding of the objectives of the study
  • Appropriateness of the methodological approach to the work
  • Costs proposed
  • Capacity to complete the work in the agreed timescale
