Summary Report from Regional Meetings 2009

Summary Report from Regional Meetings 2009

Summary

This summary report is the culmination of the regional meetings of 2009 which took place in Carlow, Cork, Cavan, Galway and Donegal. It highlights how the adult education sector is under severe pressure to meet the increasing demand for education and training given the current economic constraints. According to the summary, the current recruitment embargo on staff with the public sector, the radically changing profile of people seeking education and training, and the overall lack of co-ordination of a number of agencies responsible for training and education are all taking its toll on the VEC Adult Education Services, and more crucially on those in need of accessing their services. The increasing demand in education and training is now apparent across all sectors, following the recent revelation that only 13,000 places were available to 37,000 who applied for PLC courses.
