Community Education Map

Mapping community education across the island of Ireland

What is the Community Education Map?

Have you ever wanted to find out about community education happening in your local area, but haven't known where to start?

The new AONTAS Community Education Map is a resource for everyone working or interested in community education in Ireland and Northern Ireland.

There is fantastic and essential work happening in local communities all across Ireland, and this map is a new space for collective visibility and connection.

In September 2023, we launched the Community Education Map!

We're continuing to invite community education groups and organisations across the island of Ireland to find us on social media and use the hashtag #PutYourselfOnTheMap

Why should you #PutYourselfOnTheMap?

People working in community education across Ireland are going above and beyond to help people get back to lots of different kinds of learning.

This is still under-valued and we want to change that.

The map will help people to get and stay connected. It's an opportunity for solidarity and a show of strength.

There are thousands of community education groups and organisations working right now in cities, towns, and villages across the country.

With this map, we're saying Community Ed is Here.

What's our vision for the map?

Our vision is that thousands of people and groups who are providing community education across Ireland will feel seen, heard, and valued.

We're working with Community Education Facilitators and the Community Education Facilitators Association (CEFA) to connect with community educators and find out what is really needed and what will make a real difference in the visibility of community education.

We want this map to be used as a practical tool for policymakers, providers, managers, and learners to be able to find out about community education and gain real insights into its impact and possibilities.

Be one of the first groups to get on the map

If you're working in a community education organisation or group, fill out this short survey and our Community Education team will take a look and add your group to the map.

Some groups who have already signed up will be featured at our “Partner Showcase” at the AONTAS Adult Education Summit 2023, "A Window to the World" this November in the Aviva Stadium, Dublin. Here, we’ll highlight and celebrate our fantastic members working in community education, who change people’s lives every day through different kinds of learning in local communities. For more information, contact Barbara at bnea@aontas.com

Lots of great opportunities coming up so watch this space.
