Working with our European colleagues means we can better advocate for adult learning here in Ireland. We're stronger together.

We're collaborating to make a difference in global challenges, like climate change and sustainability, the digital divide, and threats to democracy.

European projects also offer great opportunities for capacity-building, sharing best practice, developing resources, and training for AONTAS members across Ireland.

We'll keep fighting for the right of all adults to access quality lifelong learning.

The Learners As Leaders Programme

A prime example is the Learners As Leaders programme, funded under the New European Agenda for Adult Learning (NEAAL).

Here, learners develop skills in areas like critical thinking, communication, and creative problem-solving. They learn how to advocate for themselves and others with similar experiences.

You Have the Means: Learners As Leaders 2023

Our latest programme, taking place in October and November 2023, is called "You Have the Means", and focuses on giving adult learners the skills they need - in research and communications - to create their own advocacy campaigns. We're particularly focussing on funding, grants, and the rising cost of returning to and stay in adult education across the island of Ireland. Learners will also have the opportunity to keep working with us on this to next year. Click here to read more about the programme.

Tale Project

AONTAS is a partner in the Erasmus+ Tale project, coordinated by the Finnish Lifelong Learning Foundation. The project will help adult learning and education organisations to use transformative learning to further green transition and help upscale the innovative practices of grassroots initiatives.

AONTAS is also involved in a number of European projects which aim to support our members with their work and promote access to, and participation in adult learning.
