We are running a new project, “Community Education Against Disinformation”, which focuses on supporting adult and community education practitioners to promote solidarity and inclusion for diverse communities living side-by-side in Ireland.

There has been a significant increase in racist and divisive thinking and behaviours in Ireland in recent times, including anti-migration protests, arson attacks, and the Dublin riots last November.

Across social media platforms, racist groups are actively putting out information that is false, and intended to deliberately deceive people. It manipulates people to advance the goals of the groups putting out the disinformation.

Educators are seeing increasingly challenging discussions around race and migration taking place among learners in classrooms across the country.

Our network, including over 400 members, has been telling us that there is a strong demand to address these challenges. This is also supported by our local and national research.

Community education is a proven method of bringing people together and increasing empathy and understanding among different groups.
