The Adult Learner Journal

The Irish Journal of Adult and Community Education: The Adult Learner is a valuable resource that documents the development of adult learning policy and practice. It provides a forum for critical reflection on the practices of teaching and learning, giving priority to subject matter that addresses social exclusion, equality, workplace learning and the study of the teacher/student relationship.

Founded in the mid-1980s, this highly-regarded journal is essential reading for anyone interested in or studying adult learning. It is the only peer-reviewed journal of adult and community education in Ireland.

A Look back at 2022

Download the 2022 edition of the Adult Learner Journal from our Latest Publications.

The 2022 edition of The Adult Learner Journal created a space to reflect on how success is measured in adult, community, and further education. What does success mean? Do our measures capture what success means to learners?

We launched the 2022 edition of The Adult Learner Journal on 21 November 2022. The launch featured speakers and ideas focused on the theme Measuring Success in Adult, Community, and Further Education. We looked at how this relates to wider topics such as adult learning for social transformation, measuring success, inclusion and human rights, learner voice and identity, as well as critical pedagogy and the reflective practitioner.

Contributors to the 2022 Journal shared some of the key messages from their articles. There were also discussion groups, hosted by authors and members from the Editorial Board.
