Connecting Communities: AONTAS at Northside Community Forum’s Speed-Networking Event
Reflections from Lorraine O’Connor, Community Education Officer at AONTAS.
Recently, I had the pleasure of attending the Northside Community Forum’s Speed-Networking Event at Le Chéile Donnycarney Community and Youth Centre.
The event was a fantastic opportunity to bring together organisations from across sectors, all working on the ground to support and strengthen our communities. The “speed-dating” format created a lively atmosphere where participants could exchange insights, build connections, and explore practical ways to collaborate for greater impact.
I was delighted to share the work of AONTAS and the Community Education Network (CEN), highlighting how community education continues to empower learners, open pathways, and contribute to local development. It was equally inspiring to hear about the commitment and innovation shown by other organisations working tirelessly to meet community needs. I had the opportunity to speak with staff from the following organisations:
- Prosper – Intellectual Disability Services
- Aoibhneas – Domestic Support Services
- Jigsaw – Youth Mental Health
- Golden Years – Community Group
- TUSLA – Child and Family Agency
- Dublin City Council
- Public Participation Network (PPN)
- Dublin Northeast Local Drug & Alcohol Task Force
Each conversation reinforced how closely connected our work is. Whether supporting families, promoting wellbeing, advocating for inclusion, or providing vital local services, we are all focused on strengthening our communities. Events like this help us learn from one another, broaden our perspectives, and identify opportunities to work together in ways that have real impact.
I left the event feeling energised and encouraged. When organisations come together, share their experience, and stay connected, it creates the conditions for meaningful and positive change.
A sincere thank you to the Northside Community Forum for hosting such an engaging and worthwhile event. I look forward to continuing these conversations and building on the connections made.
