This May, we will hold an in-person event at the Richmond Education and Events Centre in Smithfield, Dublin, bringing together Irish adult and community educators and practitioners and European colleagues to work towards closing the digital divide.

Taking place on 11th May from 10am to 1.30pm, “Later Life Online” will feature discussions and a workshop with An Cosán on new findings in this field, and on new teaching tools and tips for working with later-life learners online for community and adult education practitioners.

We will hear from people who have returned to education later in life – “later life” adult learners – on their experiences of gaining more confidence and competence with technology and digital skills through innovative adult education programmes.

We’ll also be showcasing outputs of the “TO SWITCH” European project, which has been working over the past couple of years to increase the number of older people engaging in education, and to provide practical tools that can be used to help with this.

The workshop from An Cosán will be led by Digital Skills Tutor Ashling Johnston, who has previously spoken with us about her own experiences of returning to learning. Ashling will offer training on their “Digital Stepping Stones” tool, which offers new ways of helping people of any age engage online and learn to use technology to help their education.

We’ll also have the chance to chat and share experiences and best practices among colleagues in adult and community education from across the country, and across Europe.

At 1.30pm, lunch will be provided and, afterwards, Community Education Network members will be invited to stay on for a CEN Meeting from 2pm to 3.30pm.

Places are limited, so book now to avoid disappointment. Click here to register for Later Life Online.
