AONTAS in EUROPE

Working with our European colleagues means we can better advocate for adult learning here in Ireland. We're stronger together.

We're collaborating to make a difference in global challenges, like climate change and sustainability, the digital divide, and threats to democracy.

European projects also offer great opportunities for capacity-building, sharing best practice, developing resources, and training for AONTAS members across Ireland.

We'll keep fighting for the right of all adults to access quality lifelong learning.

The Learners As Leaders Programme

A prime example is the Learners As Leaders programme, funded under the New European Agenda for Adult Learning (NEAAL).

Here, learners develop skills in areas like critical thinking, communication, and creative problem-solving. They learn how to advocate for themselves and others with similar experiences.

You Have the Means: Learners As Leaders 2023

Our latest programme, which took place in October and November 2023, was called "You Have the Means", and focuses on giving adult learners the skills they need - in research and communications - to create their own advocacy campaigns. We particularly focussed on funding, grants, and the rising cost of returning to and stay in adult education across the island of Ireland. Learners will keep working with us on this in 2024. Click here to read more about the programme.
