About this Event

Public Consultation on the Adult Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy Strategy

  • Thursday 3rd December, 11:00am-12:00pm
  • Tuesday 8th December, 3:00pm-4:00pm

Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Simon Harris TD, has announced a public consultation on a new 10-year Adult Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (ALND) Strategy. This strategy will be developed to make sure all adults in Ireland have the necessary reading and writing, maths, and computer skills to participate fully in Irish society.

We want to hear about your experience

As part of the National FET Learner Forum, AONTAS is hosting two online focus groups taking place via Zoom. AONTAS has also created a learner survey that all learners can fill out. The purpose of the survey and the focus groups is to make sure learner voice is included in the new strategy by allowing learners to share their experiences and have their say.

In focus groups, learners will be asked:

  • What are some effective ways your centre teaches adult literacy, numeracy, and digital literacy?
  • What are the barriers you see in trying to increase your literacy, numeracy and digital literacy?
  • What could be done to improve adult literacy, numeracy and digital literacy in Ireland?

Focus Groups

These focus groups are for learners who:

  • have done a course in literacy, numeracy or digital literacy (computer or IT skills)
  • are taking a course in literacy, numeracy or digital literacy at the moment
  • are receiving additional support with their literacy, numeracy or digital literacy
  • learners who are taking any course that includes improving their literacy, numeracy or digital literacy
  • people who are not taking a course, but who would like to improve their literacy, numeracy or digital literacy
