Community Education is adult learning that takes place in local communities across Ireland. It is person-centred and responds to what people need.
It is also an ideal setting in which to strengthen communities by bringing people together to learn, and by building intercultural understanding.
AONTAS’ Community Education Network (CEN) is made up over one hundred independently-managed groups, who work together to share information and resources, and demonstrate why Community Education is such a crucial part of our education system.
We hold regular CEN meetings to support and build solidarity among the network. Our next meeting in early December planned to explore members’ concerns about racial and community tensions within community education spaces.
The shocking and profoundly disturbing aftermath to yesterday’s tragic events in Dublin has only added to the urgency of doing so.
We have contacted all CEN members about this meeting, and are open to your suggestions and ideas about how to best make it supportive and effective. If you are a CEN member and would like to register you can do so now.
