About this event

AONTAS invites adult educators, trainers, researchers, policymakers, civil society organisations, community organisers, and anyone interested in history, memory, and lifelong learning to join the VOICES Project webinar, Contemporary Witnesses | On Oral History, Counter Archives and Adult Learning, taking place online on 25 June 2026 from 9:00–10:30 IST.

You can register now to take part in this engaging discussion.

The webinar will explore how personal testimonies, oral histories, and lived experiences can challenge dominant historical narratives and contribute to more inclusive understandings of history, migration, and democratic participation. Bringing together practitioners, researchers, educators, and civil society representatives from across Europe, the session will examine the role of adult learning in preserving memory, promoting inclusion, and creating space for underrepresented voices.

A key focus of the discussion will be the role of counter-archives in broadening historical knowledge and ensuring that diverse experiences are recognised and valued. Participants will also explore how lived experiences and personal testimonies can be meaningfully integrated into adult learning settings.

Topics will include:

  • How counter-archives challenge dominant historical narratives
  • The role of lived experiences and testimonies in adult learning
  • Inclusive approaches to literacy, memory, and historical knowledge
  • Communicating these themes effectively through adult education across Europe

The webinar will provide an opportunity to reflect on how authentic experiences, particularly those of migrant learners and other underrepresented communities, can contribute to the creation and communication of historical knowledge.

Register now to join the conversation and explore the connections between oral history, adult learning, and democratic participation.
